Hair loss
Although hair in itself does not play an essential role in the human body, it greatly impacts a person’s physical appearance and psychological peace of mind. It is considered physiologically normal to lose about 100 strands per day, provided the majority grow back, otherwise the hair will start to thin. Hair weakening, damage, and loss can occur due to various causes: hormonal imbalances (androgenic alopecia in humans); deficiencies (iron and zinc deficiencies, breastfeeding, convalescence); metabolism (dieting), mental state (prolonged studies); energy levels (fatigue); psychic condition (anxiety, stress, losing loved ones); mechanical reasons (excessive use of hairdryer); chemical treatments (perm, permanent straightening); pharmacological reasons (chemotherapy).
Hair nutrients
Certain nutritional compounds designed specifically to treat the hair, can restore its vitality and beauty. In particular cystine, a sulphur-containing amino acid that forms keratin, responsible for making hair and nails resistant. Vitamin B6 is essential for the synthesis of cystine and its incorporation into hair and nails. Zinc is crucial for the synthesis of keratin, starting from the cystine.
Vitamin H or B8, also known as biotin contributes to the synthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, amino acids, and glycogen. Its deficit causes the appearance of acne, seborrheic dermatitis, and alopecia. Bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris), which is rich in mineral salts, especially silicon, is used for its capacity to revitalise and mineralise fragile skin appendages (hair loss, weak nails). The extract obtained from the fruits of the saw palmetto (Serenoa repens), native to South American countries, is used in humans to counteract the binding of dihydrotestosterone, which otherwise causes follicular atrophy and therefore premature hair loss. Given that fatigue, stress, and depression are often associated with hair loss, especially in women, the inclusion of Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea) in specific preparations is very valuable in enhancing the beauty and vitality of women’s hair.
