The most common symptoms are pain and burning during urination, and the urgent need to urinate frequently. Among the agents responsible for cystitis, a prominent role is played by <strong>Escherichia coli<\/strong>, a germ commonly found in the intestine, which rises up to the bladder.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>General measures<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The general measures include <strong>drinking at least 2 litres of water a day<\/strong>, avoiding constipation, maintaining a balanced intestinal flora, taking lactic bacteria to counter gut dysbiosis, urinating frequently and not retaining urine. Urinate after intercourse.<\/p>\n<h2>Phytotherapy and nutritional supplements<\/h2>\n<p>In urinary tract infections, several phytocomplexes and nutritional supplements can be used to prevent and control the inflammatory process. To prevent recurring urinary tract infections, 20-day cycles per month are recommended, as needed.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Cranberry <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Cranberry<\/strong> fruit, thanks to its high <strong>procyanidin content<\/strong>, stops bacteria from adhering to the cells of the mucous membrane lining the urinary tract, thus promoting their elimination with urine. It also causes acidification of the urine, thus creating a hostile environment for the bacteria, and in particular for Escherichia coli, often responsible for cystitis. The dried extract must contain at least 36 mg of proanthocyanidins, measured using the <strong>DMAC method<\/strong> (a colorimetric method that uses dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde as a reagent) for best results, whether preventive or therapeutic.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bearberry<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva ursi L.) is a plant traditionally used to treat urinary tract infections. <strong>Arbutin<\/strong> is the active ingredient characterising its antiseptic properties. It seems, in fact, that the heteroside breaks down, freeing its aglycone: hydroquinone, effectively responsible for the antibacterial properties.\u00a0 The high tannin content also offers astringent properties useful in controlling urinary disorders.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Mallow\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Mallow (Malva sylvestris L.) is a plant rich in soothing substances. The flowers and leaves contain mucilage that exerts a <strong>soothing action <\/strong>on the inflamed mucosa. It also performs an intestinal regulatory action, which facilitates the condition of gut eubiosis. At a urinary level, it promotes defensive mechanisms, especially against Escherichia coli, responsible for cystitis.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Mannose <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>D-mannose is a simple sugar, poorly absorbed by the gut, which after oral administration is largely eliminated with stools and urine, manifesting the inhibition of bacterial adhesins.
